5 Favorite Things

I was supposed to get this posted last week, but decided I wanted to add more photos to the post which I ended up procrastinated on.I’m currently in the process of getting used to working a later schedule instead of early mornings.

  1. Mieroglyphs-I was contacted by the company via Instagram on being an affiliate for them. After checking out their Instagram and their website to see if the brand was something I would want to work with , I decided to agree. The bracelets are made from sustainable materials and are vegan friendly.I went with the S bracelet in a neutral color since I wanted something that would work with all my other accessories and wardrobe.I love that it’s super lightweight and comfortable which is great since I spend most of my day at a computer typing.  Check out their website and If you love what they have to offer, check out their e use the discount code COUTURE20 for 20% off of your order.fullsizeoutput_6e
  2. Old Navy Shoes-You would think after buying 3 pairs of boots from here(I have been living in my chelsea boots since buying them earlier this year) I would no longer be surprised by the quality of their shoes. I ended up picking up the perfect nude heel for under $11 and some navy blue driving loafers(I love the mint color) which are the comfiest flats in my closet right now. fullsizeoutput_6f
  3. Faux Fur Throw- I talked about this in my last blog post, but honestly, I am still so super obsessed with it and the one I have laying on my closet floor. The next room to get one is probably going to be the livingroom either for the sofa or a shag like rug .2017-01-27 04_Fotor.jpg
  4. Highwaisted relaxed jean- A bit of a mouthful to say. I have been on the hunt for the perfect white/light colored jeans for a while. I knew I wanted a more relaxed  fit and something distressed. While browsing the Nordstrom Rack site I ended up finding Mother Denim jeans. I have heard of this brand, but never tried them before which made me a little leery. After trying them on, I can safely say these are exactly what I had in mind. I got lucky and found a pair of The Perfect Vintage jean by Madewell for about $30! While the pair I have are sold out, I have linked some similar ones.
    1. BDG Mom Jean
    2. Madewell Perfect Vintage Jean
    3. Redone
  5. _dsc1312_fotor
  6. Urban Outfitters Sweater- It’s no surprise I love Urban Outfitters since I almost always have something linked in a post from them and I briefly worked at one. This BDG Waffle knit sweater is my favorite thing I have ever gotten from UO. I have to stop myself from putting this sweater on everyday. It’s a blush color that works well with all shades of denim and all styles from skinny jeans to flares. Just oversized enough without looking like a tent and a long enough to keep you covered if you pair with leggings.I also love the neck on it. High enough to keep you warm without being constricting likes some turtlenecks. I also picked this up in green multi which is more of a blue with some green mixed in._dsc1317_fotor

Fall Fashion-1 Year later

I can’t believe it’s been a year (and a few days)since starting my blog! It has certainly been a new learning experience for me.  While I knew in my mind blogging would be time consuming, it’s a lot more work than I anticipated at times. While I’m still not where I want to be with my blog or career wise ,I’ve learned the important thing is to continue to work hard, even if it is at a slower pace than what you initially intended. Right now my goals are to continue to work on posting more frequently, work on posting even better content, and continue to grow. Thanks to everyone that reads my posts and follows me both on the blog and on social media.I’m excited to how the blog and myself will be in another year.
Since my first blog post on CoutureGourmand was my Fall Fashion Picks I figured it’s only fitting to have my one year post be my picks for Fall 2016.
Sweater Weather

  1. Madewell Cableknit Sweater– To me, this is the quintessential fall sweater. For extra warmth add a turtleneck or button up underneath.
  2. Anthropologie Miaou Turtleneck– If there was ever a perfect sweater for me, this would be it. It’s cream colored, a boxy fit turtleneck, and  most importantly, has a cat on it.
  3. Kimchi Blue Lace Trim Sweater– I have a sweater that is similar to this I bought a few years ago from Urban Outfitters. It is probably my favorite sweater in my closet. I love the hunter color with the contrasting cream lace detail.
  4. Silence + Noise Hooded Cardigan– I love the brown color block version of this. If theres was a perfect sweater to throw on a tee with leggings and have binge watch shows on Netflix, this is it.
  5. Vince Cashmere Funnel Neck Sweater– If I had to pick one sweater to buy, this would be it. I love the neckline of the sweater and no one does cashmere sweaters quite like Vince.

Tops & Bottoms

  1. Target Tie-Neck Blouse– Since chokers and bandanas were a big trend this summer,it makes sense that the tie-neck blouse would be on trend for fall. I love this in pink.
  2. Urban Outfitters Bodysuit– The bodysuit is another trend that is still going strong. Perfect for wearing with a high waisted jean or skirt and not having to worry about constantly making sure your shirt is tucked in just right.
  3. Loft Striped Lantern Sleeve Blouse– The striped shirt in a grown up and work friendy form. If you find bell sleeves to be a little overwhelming , lantern sleeves give you the same dramatic look while being tapered at the wrist.
  4. H&M Crinkled Flounce Blouse– It seems like the trends for tops are about a dramatic sleeve and this is no exception. The sheer and flouncy sleeves and the neckline of this blouce gives this a fluttery and romantic look.

  1. Joe’s Jeans Ex-Lover Crop Straight Leg Boyfriend Jeans– One of the biggest trends for denim is two-toned denim. The loose fit of these jeans make these perfect for the weekends with a cozy sweater and loafers.
  2. J Brand High-rise Skinny– Another huge denim trend is the raw or uneven hem. While J-Brand makes some of the best skinny jeans, you can get the look for less by cutting up some skinny jeans you have in your closet. This jean is the pefect partner for a great ankle bootie.
  3. Free People Maxi Skirt– While the print may not be for everyone, this skirt screams fall/winter. The rich jewel tones, it’s velvet, and has a button front. I love the look of cropped sweaters paired with maxi skirts and boots.
  4. Madewell Shirttail Skirt– A plaid skirt that is more street style than school girl. This skirt would look great with a tucked in oxford or a cropped sweater. If you want something versitle, this is a great pick.

  • J.Crew Excursion Vest-This vest is a classic staple and offered in a variety of colors. Go for the Han Solo look and pair this with a long sleeve shirt, leggings, and tall boots.
  • Chambray Puffer Vest– I am obsessed with Chambray and this vest from Anthropologie is no exception. This is a great alternative to a denim jacket and is just as versitile. This would look great over a cableknit sweater and some black jeans.
  • Levi’s Sherpa Trucker Jacket-While I do own a red buffalo plaid jacket already, I’m currently trying to figure out how to make more room in my closet to add this jacket (and wondering if Garrett will notice the difference between the two jackets). While I This is an oversized fit of Levi’s trucker jacket and has a sherpa collar
  • Zara Coat-The oversized style is still going strong. The fit makes it easy to slip over bulky sweaters. Go for the tomboy chic look and wear with plaid shirt or sweatshirt, some rolled vintage levis and sneakers.

  • Forever 21 Slip Dress– One of the big trends for fall is the slip dress. Wear with a simple tee layered underneath or a cozy sweater on top for extra warmth. Add some combat boots for a grungier look.
  • Free People Last Minute Pullover Dress– A sweatshirt in dress form! I love the ruffled hem of the skirt that gives it just the right feminine touch and it has pockets! I love the fig version.
  • Banana Republic Ruffle Cuff Dress-This is a great every occasion dress. Perfect for work, date night, or drinks at the local bar. I love the overall minimal look with the small ruffle detail on the cuffs.
  • Target Sleeveless Turtleneck-Sleeveless turtlnecks seemed to be a big trend this summer and it’s still going strong into fall when you pair it over a long sleeve shirt. The midi length dress and the side slits makes it perfect for wearing a tall boots or an ankle strap flat.
  • American Eagle Maxi Dress– While the dress is sleeveless, one of my favorite things about colder weather is being able to layer. This dress can easily be layered over a  long sleeve shirt or turtleneck underneath to stay on trend or with a cropped pullover or long cardigan.
  1. Loefeller Randall bucket bag– The minimal look of the bag makes this great for dressing up or down and I love it has a clasp closure  instead of a drawstring that most bucket bags tend to have.
  1. Baublebar Axelia Choker– Chokers are still trending pretty strong. I love this one from Baublebar. Though it has multi-layers, the chain is thin so it gives it a delicate look instead of bold or edgy and the tassle detail keeps it fun.
  2. Argento Vivo Needle Ring-The perfect balance between delicate and edgy. This would be great on it’s own or stacked with other rings. It also has a similar look to Cartier’s Juste un Clou ring at a wallet friendly price.
  3. Loefeller Randall bucket bag– The minimal look of the bag makes this great for dressing up or down and I love it has a clasp closure  instead of a drawstring that most bucket bags tend to have.
  4. Free People Bloom Scarf– I love the look of mixing stripes and florals so naturally I am in love with this scarf! I love the blurred floral print and this looks super fuzzy and warm.
  5. Beanie with pompom-Having a drawer full of winter hats that I can barely close hasn’t stopped me from searching for a new one to buy this season. Right now I am loving knit hats with (faux) fur pom pom on top to keep your head warm and stylish.

  • Old Navy Chelsea Boot– I’ve been wanting a pair of Chelsea boots and finally caved since there was a coupon code. I love that while the boots are simple, they definitely add a bit of edge to even the most basic outfit. I’m thinking of picking up this version
  • Steve Madden Shariniv– Velvet seems to be the fabric of choice especially when it comes to footwear. I love the peerk-a-boo slits on the side and the navy version is a great alternative to black.
  • Sam Edelman Loafer-I’ve been looking for some new mocassins or loafers to replace my worn out ones and these caught my eye.I love the red color and these are a great dupe to Gucci loafers .
  • Steve Madden Laaura Loafer-Speaking of Gucci shoes, one of the hottest footwear trends I keep seeing on my Instagram feed are these Gucci mules and Steven Madden offers a more affordable option. I  can certainly see the appeal of these shoes. Like the loafes above, it gives a casual polished look and the fact that it’s backless makes it easy to slip on and head out the door.
  • Michael Kors Sabrina Flat– I’m a ballet flat shoe kind of girl. I love these ones by Michael Kors. The chain detail around the heel adds a touch of edge to an otherwise feminine shoe.I love the contrast of the nude/black version with the gold chain or the sleek monochromatic look of the all black flat.

What are some of your favorite fall fashion items you have picked up?

Weekend Update

Weekend Update

It’s been a while since my last blog update. I wasn’t feeling 100% last week. I felt like Lucille 2 from Arrested development that suffers from vertigo and had bad migraines, I think due to the unusual weather and changes in temperature. I’m glad to finally be feeling like myself  since there are only a few more days until Christmas. This weekend Garrett and I ran around finishing up our shopping. All that’s left to do is wrap everything up.

Annabell is all wrapped up and ready for Christmas

Garrett and I had planned on getting up early to go to the market and then the mall for some shopping. Since it was colder than it has been, neither of us liked the idea of getting up early to get just a few items. We ended up going downtown since I needed to buy a few gifts that were on my list I still needed to buy. Our first stop was Urban Outfitters. I could spend hours in there looking at everything and trying things on, however since we had a lot of things to do I quickly browsed and picked up what I needed. Since we paid for parking, we decided to look around and go to a few places. Our next stop is a boutique called Bounce. Some of the items in store were 30% off and I ended up buying a sweater I saw the last time I was in there. It reminds me of funfetti cake and my new favorite. It’s  a cream color with different color flecks of wool.

Our next step was a store called Tenacious Sound. As soon as I waked in I wanted to laugh because all I could think of was a skit from Portlandia( 2 girls 2 shirts). There were just a few items on display, however we probably spent the most time in that store. Garrett tested out a few different pairs of headphones and was asking about different amps.

Killing time by taking selfies while Garrett looks at headphones.

We ended up heading out to Goodwill and I picked up two different sized vases for flowers and headed to Marshall’s. When I was in Albany last weekend, we ended up going to Marshall’s and I found a pair of white Levis that had small rips in the knees, however I didn’t feel like trying them on and the line was long. I figured it was a long shot, but decided to go to see if they had them and they did! To me, white jeans are probably some of the hardest to shop for. If the denim is too thin, then they are transparent and if you get the wrong cut, then they aren’t the most flattering. The jeans fit pretty well and were more of a straight cut than a skinny fit like the label said. I was going to buy them and try them at home with a few things, but the line was half way around the store. I figured I would go back this week in the morning. If they are still there then its meant to be. We ended up picking up some lunch at Panda Express then headed home. We recently started watching Game of Thrones now that we have HBO Go and that is pretty much all we have been watching to catch up. We ended up going to Wegmans for dinner and Garrett was nice enough to buy me some hydrangeas I have been eyeing.

Garrett and I were going to wake up early to go to the mall when it opened up, however neither of us set the alarm and woke up a little before noon. Since we only had to run to Best Buy, we decided to go to the one nearby instead of the mall and having to deal with mall traffic, looking for parking, and large crowds. We were able to find what we were looking for and headed for the check out. We headed over to my mom’s house to pick up a few things for gifts she was nice enough to pick up for me. We ended up making a few quick trips to get the last of the gifts on my list and had dinner. I’m not a big wine drinker, but every now and then I pick up a bottle so before heading home we stopped at the wine and liquor store and I picked up a bottle of Brambleberry wine by Hazlitt 1852 Vineyards.

Bramble Berry wine and my bouquet of hydrangeas.

I usually like wines that are on the sweeter side and this one definitely is. Garrett isn’t big on wine, but he did like this one so I’m glad I went with the big bottle. Garrett did the laundry and we ended the night with watching more Game of Thrones.

I am currently working on a Travel post about the city that holds my heart Portland, OR. I am debating if I should make it one long post or break it up into 2 parts so hopefully it should be up sometime at the end of the week. If I don’t post before then, Happy Holidays everyone!

Favorite Fall Fashions

When I was younger, my favorite season was summer. Summer meant no school, taking family trips, and playing outside. Now that I am older, autumn is now my favorite season. The cool and crisp air, the changing colors of the leaves and pumpkin spice everything. Most of all, I love fall fashion and wearing lots of layers. Here are my top picks for fall fashion.

There is nothing like fighting the cold air like a comfy cozy sweater. From crew necks to cardigans the options are endless. My current favorite is a striped turtleneck from Madewell that I have been wearing at least once a week.

Favorite Fall sweaters

  • Madewell-Definitely not your average sweater, with the contrast color on the back and the faux wrap front. I am a fan of the hi-lo cut their sweaters usually have
  • Woolrich-When I think of cozy fall-time sweater this is what comes to mind. Cream colored and cable knit.I envision myself wearing this while reading a book and drinking some spiced cider in front of a fireplace.
  • Target-A tunic sweater is great for fall and beyond. You can layer it under cardigans from extra warmth or put it over a chambray shirt. Definitely a wardrobe essential. I like this detailing on the back one.

One of my favorite ways to add extra warmth or a pop of color to an outfit. Scarves can be found everywhere and at all different price points. One of my favorite trends is the blanket scarf. This scarf is going to be a staple for fall and winter

Favorite fall scarves

  • Nordstrom-Similar to the scarf from Zara that started the blanket scarf craze a year or two ago.Classic color combination that will go with a variety of colored sweaters and jackets.
  • Burberry-While it is definitely a splurge item ,it’s also very timeless. One of my most beloved items in my closet is a Burberry scarf I received from my parents 11 years ago.Burberry offers their signature check in a multitude of colors and the option to have it monogrammed.
  • Forever21-Nothing combats the cold harsh winds quite like a chunky knit infinity scarf. I love this in the cream color and the price.

I am one of those people that wear boots year round. They come in a variety of heights and style.Part of the reason I love fall is because the amount of boots that become available. Right now my go to pair are combat boots. I limited myself to just a few pairs and will probably write a more detailed post later on.

Favorite fall boots

  • Zara-What kind of fashion blog would this be if I didn’t include a link to Zara.An ankle boot is a must have and  I love the color of these.Ox blood/Burgundy is a great way to add some color to your shoe collection and is just is wearable as black or brown. The detail on the heel makes it stand out even more
  • Kohls-The riding boot is the quintessential fall boot. I like the minimum buckle detail in the front and around the back of the boot. The black and tan combo is perfect for when you don’t know which color boot to go with and shoes you can pair black and brown.
  • Chinese Laundry-This is probably my go to brand for boots. Being someone that has larger calves, I find that their boots are roomy enough to wear over a thick sock and jeans. A tall gray suede boot goes with everything.

Let’s face it, sometimes a sweater and a scarf just doesn’t cut it when the temperature starts dipping. A jacket is a great way to keep warm and can make a fashion statement. I love that the temperature is getting colder so I can wear my new jacket. When I saw this during the Nordstrom Anniversary sale earlier this year,I didn’t hesitate to buy this. The buffalo plaid print ,the wool material and it’s made by Pendelton.Everything about this screams Pacific NorthWest.

Favorite Fall jackets/outerwear

  • Old Navy-This is a great coat for fall. . I love the texture of the jacket and the cocoon cut is a relaxed fit which allows you to add layers underneath .I might have to add this to my collection
  • ASOS-The duster coat was seen on celebrities and fashion bloggers everywhere for the past few years and is sticking around for this fall/winter .Definitely a versatile piece. You can pair this with jeans and some oxfords to play up the masculine feel with it’s looser fit and long length or give it a more feminine feel and pair it with a dress   This one from ASOS will definitely get you noticed with it’s vibrant orange color.
  • Macy’s-Another gray jacket. I love the cut of this and the gray is unexpected. Whether you go with faux or real leather, it will become one of your most worn items in your closet since it pairs well with everything.

hats and socks

What better way to top off your outfit than with a hat or add an extra element to your outfit with a pair of cozy socks peeking out from your boots.

  • H&M-Nothing says effortless cool quite like a slouchy beanie. H&M is one of my favorite places to buy knit hats
  • Urban Outfitters-For when you want to add that je ne sais quoi element to an outfit, a beret is a great choice.
  • Nordstrom-Floppy hats aren’t just for summer. This would go great with a flowy dress, ankle boots and a duster coat.

  • J.Crew-J.crew makes great wardrobe basics and even socks are no exception .These would look great over leggings or a cropped skinny pant.I have a pair similar to these I wear peeking out from combat boots
  • Boot cuffs&socks-Perfect for a taller boot and looks great with jeans or with a dress and some tights to provide extra warmth.
  • Francesca’s-Another great alternative is the boot cuff .I love that these are reversible.

Hope you enjoyed some of my top picks. What are some of your favorite fall fashions ?
