Spring fashion haul

While the snow is falling outside the window and blanketing my car and driveway, I am fantasizing about Spring. While I love wearing layers of clothes and sweaters, all of my recent purchases show Spring time is on my mind and the warmer weather that’s to come. While I have purchased  more clothes (and shoes)than I have in a while, I’ve been trying to fill in gaps in my closet(mostly blouses). Here are my Spring clothing purchases from the past few weeks.

haul1

1Anorak Jacket- After looking through countless options online, I got lucky and found one on sale at a local boutique that was going out of business. The longer length makes this a great alternative to a cardigan for spring time and the light weight material makes this perfect for transition weather. I couldn’t find the exact one online ,but found some that are similar.

2.As soon as I saw this blouse on ChichWish I knew I needed to add it to my closet. One of the big trends continuing into spring are bell sleeves and ruffles. I love the detailing on the sleeve and the contrast against the blue and white stripes.fullsizeoutput_75_fotor

3.Since I’ve been loving mom jeans and high waisted jeans, I wanted to find a boxy cropped length top. This cropped shirt by Spiritual Gangster was another find from the botique that was closing. It  isn’t too short and the boxy fit makes this perfect to throw on top of jeans and head out the door. I also love that this is a graphic tee since I have been wanting to add a few more to my closet. While I couldn’t find the exact one online, I did find some similar ones.

4.I have been on the hunt for a body suit, more specifically a henley style. While browsing the American Eagle website, I happened to find this and immediately ordered it.  I love the deep v-neck and the ribbed fabric. I have a feeling this is going to get a lot of wear and plan on picking this up in white.

5.Lately I have been obsessed with blue, maybe because I’ve avoided this shade for a while(more specifically lighter shades). While shopping around downtown a few weekends I immediatly gravitated to this top since the shade caught my eye and noticed this also happened to be an off the shoulder top(even better!). I can’t wait for it to warm up so I can wear this. I found a few tops that are similar to this one

1.I ended up finding this while at the Free People store this weekend. While it’s on the website for full prince, I lucked out and found it on sale for $29.99 plus an extra 30% off! While it’s actually a tunic, I bought it to wear around this house as an alternative to a robe(working remotley has it’s perks).I love the floral print and the tie detailing on the sleeves.FP.jpg

2.Another Free People find, I have been looking for a mock neck tank top and I love the flowy fit of this.It has just a little bit of drape to and will look great with a bralette under it. I decided to go with the plum color (I own enough black and white tank tops)since it will give a pop of color to black jeans or have a great vibrant contrast with white jeans.

3.It wouldn’t be a haul without me featuring Old Navy shoes. I went in with the intentions to buy the mint colored loafers, however these white perferated moccasins just screamed warm sunny weather. If you can actually believe it, I own flats in every color except brown. These brown ballet flats  were on sale for $9.99 plus an extra 30% off and knew I couldn’t leave the store without them.

4.How can you mention spring time without thinking of greenery and flowers. I ended up falling in love with the planters at Anthropologie store and had a hard time narrowing it down. Since the bf and I had discussed growing some fresh herbs , I knew these herb pots would be perfect . Since they are cement, they have some weight to them  and I love the detailing on them. Now we just need to choose which herbs to plant. While at Anthro, this planter caught my eye when I saw it and was a steal at$14(especially for Anthropologie). I’m still deciding on where this planter is acutally going to go and what I’m going to put in it. I’m thinking of picking up this tree trunk planter or this pink ridged teracotta in the large size.fullsizeoutput_78.jpeg

5.I had been eyeing this top on the Madewell website for a while. When I saw it at the store and tried it on I knew this was coming home with me even though this is a long sleeve version almost identical to a shirt I own already from Madewell. However since I love the print of it so much, I had to add this to my closet. While the shirt is light weight, it still manages to have some weight to it which makes it perfect for a cooler night or when it’s a little chilly out.

6.Because I don’t own enough short sleeve tops from Madewell , I ended up picking this up as well. I love the effortlessness of this top. I love the vertical stripes and I love the cut of this blouse especially the sleeves, which keep it from being your every day short sleeve button up blouse. The looseness of the top and light weight fabric make this perfect when the temperature starts to climb. I can’t wait to wear this with my white moccasins.

Now that my spring wardrobe has pretty much complete, the only thing left for me to buy are a pair (or 2)of sneakers ,possibly another pair of denim shorts and a dress for a wedding I’m going to this spring. I’m eyeing a few different dresses from the brand Show Me Your Mumu. I seriously want to buy everything on the website, so deciding on style of dress and print is going to be a tough choice.

Anyone else starting to buy clothes for Spring? What are you looking to add to your Spring wardrobe?  Hope everyone had a good weekend and has a great Monday!

Fall Fashion-1 Year later

I can’t believe it’s been a year (and a few days)since starting my blog! It has certainly been a new learning experience for me.  While I knew in my mind blogging would be time consuming, it’s a lot more work than I anticipated at times. While I’m still not where I want to be with my blog or career wise ,I’ve learned the important thing is to continue to work hard, even if it is at a slower pace than what you initially intended. Right now my goals are to continue to work on posting more frequently, work on posting even better content, and continue to grow. Thanks to everyone that reads my posts and follows me both on the blog and on social media.I’m excited to how the blog and myself will be in another year.
Since my first blog post on CoutureGourmand was my Fall Fashion Picks I figured it’s only fitting to have my one year post be my picks for Fall 2016.
Sweater Weather

Sweaters

  1. Madewell Cableknit Sweater– To me, this is the quintessential fall sweater. For extra warmth add a turtleneck or button up underneath.
  2. Anthropologie Miaou Turtleneck– If there was ever a perfect sweater for me, this would be it. It’s cream colored, a boxy fit turtleneck, and  most importantly, has a cat on it.
  3. Kimchi Blue Lace Trim Sweater– I have a sweater that is similar to this I bought a few years ago from Urban Outfitters. It is probably my favorite sweater in my closet. I love the hunter color with the contrasting cream lace detail.
  4. Silence + Noise Hooded Cardigan– I love the brown color block version of this. If theres was a perfect sweater to throw on a tee with leggings and have binge watch shows on Netflix, this is it.
  5. Vince Cashmere Funnel Neck Sweater– If I had to pick one sweater to buy, this would be it. I love the neckline of the sweater and no one does cashmere sweaters quite like Vince.

Tops & Bottoms

Tops

  1. Target Tie-Neck Blouse– Since chokers and bandanas were a big trend this summer,it makes sense that the tie-neck blouse would be on trend for fall. I love this in pink.
  2. Urban Outfitters Bodysuit– The bodysuit is another trend that is still going strong. Perfect for wearing with a high waisted jean or skirt and not having to worry about constantly making sure your shirt is tucked in just right.
  3. Loft Striped Lantern Sleeve Blouse– The striped shirt in a grown up and work friendy form. If you find bell sleeves to be a little overwhelming , lantern sleeves give you the same dramatic look while being tapered at the wrist.
  4. H&M Crinkled Flounce Blouse– It seems like the trends for tops are about a dramatic sleeve and this is no exception. The sheer and flouncy sleeves and the neckline of this blouce gives this a fluttery and romantic look.

Bottoms

  1. Joe’s Jeans Ex-Lover Crop Straight Leg Boyfriend Jeans– One of the biggest trends for denim is two-toned denim. The loose fit of these jeans make these perfect for the weekends with a cozy sweater and loafers.
  2. J Brand High-rise Skinny– Another huge denim trend is the raw or uneven hem. While J-Brand makes some of the best skinny jeans, you can get the look for less by cutting up some skinny jeans you have in your closet. This jean is the pefect partner for a great ankle bootie.
  3. Free People Maxi Skirt– While the print may not be for everyone, this skirt screams fall/winter. The rich jewel tones, it’s velvet, and has a button front. I love the look of cropped sweaters paired with maxi skirts and boots.
  4. Madewell Shirttail Skirt– A plaid skirt that is more street style than school girl. This skirt would look great with a tucked in oxford or a cropped sweater. If you want something versitle, this is a great pick.
Outerwear

Outerwear

  • J.Crew Excursion Vest-This vest is a classic staple and offered in a variety of colors. Go for the Han Solo look and pair this with a long sleeve shirt, leggings, and tall boots.
  • Chambray Puffer Vest– I am obsessed with Chambray and this vest from Anthropologie is no exception. This is a great alternative to a denim jacket and is just as versitile. This would look great over a cableknit sweater and some black jeans.
  • Levi’s Sherpa Trucker Jacket-While I do own a red buffalo plaid jacket already, I’m currently trying to figure out how to make more room in my closet to add this jacket (and wondering if Garrett will notice the difference between the two jackets). While I This is an oversized fit of Levi’s trucker jacket and has a sherpa collar
  • Zara Coat-The oversized style is still going strong. The fit makes it easy to slip over bulky sweaters. Go for the tomboy chic look and wear with plaid shirt or sweatshirt, some rolled vintage levis and sneakers.

Dress

Dresses

  • Forever 21 Slip Dress– One of the big trends for fall is the slip dress. Wear with a simple tee layered underneath or a cozy sweater on top for extra warmth. Add some combat boots for a grungier look.
  • Free People Last Minute Pullover Dress– A sweatshirt in dress form! I love the ruffled hem of the skirt that gives it just the right feminine touch and it has pockets! I love the fig version.
  • Banana Republic Ruffle Cuff Dress-This is a great every occasion dress. Perfect for work, date night, or drinks at the local bar. I love the overall minimal look with the small ruffle detail on the cuffs.
  • Target Sleeveless Turtleneck-Sleeveless turtlnecks seemed to be a big trend this summer and it’s still going strong into fall when you pair it over a long sleeve shirt. The midi length dress and the side slits makes it perfect for wearing a tall boots or an ankle strap flat.
  • American Eagle Maxi Dress– While the dress is sleeveless, one of my favorite things about colder weather is being able to layer. This dress can easily be layered over a  long sleeve shirt or turtleneck underneath to stay on trend or with a cropped pullover or long cardigan.
Accessories
Accessories
  1. Loefeller Randall bucket bag– The minimal look of the bag makes this great for dressing up or down and I love it has a clasp closure  instead of a drawstring that most bucket bags tend to have.
  1. Baublebar Axelia Choker– Chokers are still trending pretty strong. I love this one from Baublebar. Though it has multi-layers, the chain is thin so it gives it a delicate look instead of bold or edgy and the tassle detail keeps it fun.
  2. Argento Vivo Needle Ring-The perfect balance between delicate and edgy. This would be great on it’s own or stacked with other rings. It also has a similar look to Cartier’s Juste un Clou ring at a wallet friendly price.
  3. Loefeller Randall bucket bag– The minimal look of the bag makes this great for dressing up or down and I love it has a clasp closure  instead of a drawstring that most bucket bags tend to have.
  4. Free People Bloom Scarf– I love the look of mixing stripes and florals so naturally I am in love with this scarf! I love the blurred floral print and this looks super fuzzy and warm.
  5. Beanie with pompom-Having a drawer full of winter hats that I can barely close hasn’t stopped me from searching for a new one to buy this season. Right now I am loving knit hats with (faux) fur pom pom on top to keep your head warm and stylish.

Shoes

Shoes

  • Old Navy Chelsea Boot– I’ve been wanting a pair of Chelsea boots and finally caved since there was a coupon code. I love that while the boots are simple, they definitely add a bit of edge to even the most basic outfit. I’m thinking of picking up this version
  • Steve Madden Shariniv– Velvet seems to be the fabric of choice especially when it comes to footwear. I love the peerk-a-boo slits on the side and the navy version is a great alternative to black.
  • Sam Edelman Loafer-I’ve been looking for some new mocassins or loafers to replace my worn out ones and these caught my eye.I love the red color and these are a great dupe to Gucci loafers .
  • Steve Madden Laaura Loafer-Speaking of Gucci shoes, one of the hottest footwear trends I keep seeing on my Instagram feed are these Gucci mules and Steven Madden offers a more affordable option. I  can certainly see the appeal of these shoes. Like the loafes above, it gives a casual polished look and the fact that it’s backless makes it easy to slip on and head out the door.
  • Michael Kors Sabrina Flat– I’m a ballet flat shoe kind of girl. I love these ones by Michael Kors. The chain detail around the heel adds a touch of edge to an otherwise feminine shoe.I love the contrast of the nude/black version with the gold chain or the sleek monochromatic look of the all black flat.

What are some of your favorite fall fashion items you have picked up?

OOTD-2/20/16

Since it’s been a while since I have done one of these, I decided to do a quick  Outfit of the Day Post. I’ve been a fan of Madewell for a few years, but lately I have turned into a fanatic. Since they had their sale over Valentine’s Day weekend and received a gift card from Christmas, I picked up a few things. Since they are known for their denim, I decided to try out their jeans. I’ve been looking for some new high waisted skinny jeans since I live in my black ones from Urban Outfitters. I ended up picking up a sweater I featured in my first blog post and a necklace since I wear the knotshine necklace all the time.

Music Monday&Weekend recap

Weekend Recap

Saturday-We went to the market and ended up getting some things for meals for the weeks. The last few times we have gone we have left a little empty handed.  We spent a little more than we usually would, however most of the cost came from buying a 2lb tub of fresh almond butter for $15 and a half a bushel of apples for $9 which is pretty good. We headed up to our favorite bakery for a treat since it’s been a while since we’ve been in and to Recess Coffee for some much needed caffeine. After dropping things off at the apartment and relaxing for a little bit, we headed to the mall and stopped by Old Navy. I ended up buying some new pants for work. They are a black cropped pant with white polka dots and I can’t wait to wear them! I also ended up buying a pair of brown ankle boots there for $2.47!  We stopped by CORE for dinner and ordered my usual (Greens and Ancient Grains bowl) and some vegetarian chili which was delicious. We ended the night with watching a documentary on Netflix call Fed Up. Definitely gave us some motivation to stick to eating clean and cutting on processed foods and sugars. I ended the night by uploading some photos from my digital camera from our Portland trip onto the laptop and editing some of the photos .

Sunday- Went to Wegmans to pick up a few things and I ended up making another batch of homemade pierogis and brought some over to my mom .I still need to finish making the rest tonight to store in the freezer.  Target released their collection with Who What Wear and it is probably one of my favorite collaborations. Since only certain locations carried the collection and one of them being near my mom’s house Garrett and I made a stop. I tried on a few things and ended up going with the white and black polka dot blouse. I figured it was something I could wear to work or on the weekends and wear year round. Dinner ended up being a quick and easy homemade version of instant noodles. After dinner I continued to work on my Portland post. It’s taken me forever to get to being near complete since I wasn’t sure of how I wanted to write the post and kept changing it. I am pretty happy with the results for the most part. I am working on a few last minute things and adding photos to it. It should be posted within the next few days.

Music Monday- It has been a while since I have done one of these. Lately, I have been listening to a mix of some old favorites and some new bands.

Lana Del Rey-Born to Die-The Paradise Edition has been playing …a lot.

Santigold-  I have been listening to Santigold more recently and I am loving the song Disparate Youth

Bon Iver-One of my most played bands.

Sleigh Bells- I have been listening to all of their albums on shuffle. Treats is still my favorite album

Colony House- They were on my Spotify Discover Weekly playlist and I have been listening to them usually when working on blog stuff for some background music.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!
