5 Favorite Things

5 Favorite Things

Here are 5 things I am currently obsessing over

  1. Sub_Urban Riot-Well known for their Kale t-shirt and sweatshirt spotted on countless celebs , most notably Queen Bey. I love their line of fun graphic tees and sweatshirts. My favorite is this sweatshirt and this t-shirt
  2. Shoptiques-I’ve definitely killed some time browsing this website. You can shop by boutiques in cities or by categories . It’s a great way to discover new boutiques in your city (or far away) and find some new favorite brands.
    1. Entro-A new brand I discovered while browsing the site. It has a Free People, boho feel to it, but at a more affordable price range.
    2. Vintalier-Simple basics, graphic tees and simple statement necklaces.
    3. LuLu’s Boutique– If everything could magically appear in my closet I would be a very happy girl. Lots of comfy sweaters, basic tees, and one of my favorite candle brands.
    4. The Afternoon-Filled with lots of fun, quirky, and unique home decor items. I am in love with the robot salt&pepper shakers.
    5. Turquoise Cactus-A great mix of cute tops and dresses for under $50
  3. Chunky knit blanket– I just want to cocoon myself in this blanket and hibernate until spring. It comes in multipl colors and sizes. Though Ohhio is the go to brand , you can probably find cheaper ones on Etsy or Amazon.
  4. Succulent Candles-Two of my favorite things combined into one and I don’t have to worry about over or under watering. Each scent is a different succulent type and it’s available in 3 sizes, however availabilty is currently limited.
  5. Cost Plus World Market-Part of the Bed, Bath, and Beyond family and a one stop shop kind of website and store.  They sell furniture, decor, food, and gift items. I would say the furniture pricing is more than Target’s Threshold line, but less than West Elm and is a similar style. If we had one nearby Garrett would have to drag me out of there.
Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!

Fall Fashion-1 Year later

I can’t believe it’s been a year (and a few days)since starting my blog! It has certainly been a new learning experience for me.  While I knew in my mind blogging would be time consuming, it’s a lot more work than I anticipated at times. While I’m still not where I want to be with my blog or career wise ,I’ve learned the important thing is to continue to work hard, even if it is at a slower pace than what you initially intended. Right now my goals are to continue to work on posting more frequently, work on posting even better content, and continue to grow. Thanks to everyone that reads my posts and follows me both on the blog and on social media.I’m excited to how the blog and myself will be in another year.
Since my first blog post on CoutureGourmand was my Fall Fashion Picks I figured it’s only fitting to have my one year post be my picks for Fall 2016.
Sweater Weather

  1. Madewell Cableknit Sweater– To me, this is the quintessential fall sweater. For extra warmth add a turtleneck or button up underneath.
  2. Anthropologie Miaou Turtleneck– If there was ever a perfect sweater for me, this would be it. It’s cream colored, a boxy fit turtleneck, and  most importantly, has a cat on it.
  3. Kimchi Blue Lace Trim Sweater– I have a sweater that is similar to this I bought a few years ago from Urban Outfitters. It is probably my favorite sweater in my closet. I love the hunter color with the contrasting cream lace detail.
  4. Silence + Noise Hooded Cardigan– I love the brown color block version of this. If theres was a perfect sweater to throw on a tee with leggings and have binge watch shows on Netflix, this is it.
  5. Vince Cashmere Funnel Neck Sweater– If I had to pick one sweater to buy, this would be it. I love the neckline of the sweater and no one does cashmere sweaters quite like Vince.

Tops & Bottoms

  1. Target Tie-Neck Blouse– Since chokers and bandanas were a big trend this summer,it makes sense that the tie-neck blouse would be on trend for fall. I love this in pink.
  2. Urban Outfitters Bodysuit– The bodysuit is another trend that is still going strong. Perfect for wearing with a high waisted jean or skirt and not having to worry about constantly making sure your shirt is tucked in just right.
  3. Loft Striped Lantern Sleeve Blouse– The striped shirt in a grown up and work friendy form. If you find bell sleeves to be a little overwhelming , lantern sleeves give you the same dramatic look while being tapered at the wrist.
  4. H&M Crinkled Flounce Blouse– It seems like the trends for tops are about a dramatic sleeve and this is no exception. The sheer and flouncy sleeves and the neckline of this blouce gives this a fluttery and romantic look.

  1. Joe’s Jeans Ex-Lover Crop Straight Leg Boyfriend Jeans– One of the biggest trends for denim is two-toned denim. The loose fit of these jeans make these perfect for the weekends with a cozy sweater and loafers.
  2. J Brand High-rise Skinny– Another huge denim trend is the raw or uneven hem. While J-Brand makes some of the best skinny jeans, you can get the look for less by cutting up some skinny jeans you have in your closet. This jean is the pefect partner for a great ankle bootie.
  3. Free People Maxi Skirt– While the print may not be for everyone, this skirt screams fall/winter. The rich jewel tones, it’s velvet, and has a button front. I love the look of cropped sweaters paired with maxi skirts and boots.
  4. Madewell Shirttail Skirt– A plaid skirt that is more street style than school girl. This skirt would look great with a tucked in oxford or a cropped sweater. If you want something versitle, this is a great pick.

  • J.Crew Excursion Vest-This vest is a classic staple and offered in a variety of colors. Go for the Han Solo look and pair this with a long sleeve shirt, leggings, and tall boots.
  • Chambray Puffer Vest– I am obsessed with Chambray and this vest from Anthropologie is no exception. This is a great alternative to a denim jacket and is just as versitile. This would look great over a cableknit sweater and some black jeans.
  • Levi’s Sherpa Trucker Jacket-While I do own a red buffalo plaid jacket already, I’m currently trying to figure out how to make more room in my closet to add this jacket (and wondering if Garrett will notice the difference between the two jackets). While I This is an oversized fit of Levi’s trucker jacket and has a sherpa collar
  • Zara Coat-The oversized style is still going strong. The fit makes it easy to slip over bulky sweaters. Go for the tomboy chic look and wear with plaid shirt or sweatshirt, some rolled vintage levis and sneakers.

  • Forever 21 Slip Dress– One of the big trends for fall is the slip dress. Wear with a simple tee layered underneath or a cozy sweater on top for extra warmth. Add some combat boots for a grungier look.
  • Free People Last Minute Pullover Dress– A sweatshirt in dress form! I love the ruffled hem of the skirt that gives it just the right feminine touch and it has pockets! I love the fig version.
  • Banana Republic Ruffle Cuff Dress-This is a great every occasion dress. Perfect for work, date night, or drinks at the local bar. I love the overall minimal look with the small ruffle detail on the cuffs.
  • Target Sleeveless Turtleneck-Sleeveless turtlnecks seemed to be a big trend this summer and it’s still going strong into fall when you pair it over a long sleeve shirt. The midi length dress and the side slits makes it perfect for wearing a tall boots or an ankle strap flat.
  • American Eagle Maxi Dress– While the dress is sleeveless, one of my favorite things about colder weather is being able to layer. This dress can easily be layered over a  long sleeve shirt or turtleneck underneath to stay on trend or with a cropped pullover or long cardigan.
  1. Loefeller Randall bucket bag– The minimal look of the bag makes this great for dressing up or down and I love it has a clasp closure  instead of a drawstring that most bucket bags tend to have.
  1. Baublebar Axelia Choker– Chokers are still trending pretty strong. I love this one from Baublebar. Though it has multi-layers, the chain is thin so it gives it a delicate look instead of bold or edgy and the tassle detail keeps it fun.
  2. Argento Vivo Needle Ring-The perfect balance between delicate and edgy. This would be great on it’s own or stacked with other rings. It also has a similar look to Cartier’s Juste un Clou ring at a wallet friendly price.
  3. Loefeller Randall bucket bag– The minimal look of the bag makes this great for dressing up or down and I love it has a clasp closure  instead of a drawstring that most bucket bags tend to have.
  4. Free People Bloom Scarf– I love the look of mixing stripes and florals so naturally I am in love with this scarf! I love the blurred floral print and this looks super fuzzy and warm.
  5. Beanie with pompom-Having a drawer full of winter hats that I can barely close hasn’t stopped me from searching for a new one to buy this season. Right now I am loving knit hats with (faux) fur pom pom on top to keep your head warm and stylish.

  • Old Navy Chelsea Boot– I’ve been wanting a pair of Chelsea boots and finally caved since there was a coupon code. I love that while the boots are simple, they definitely add a bit of edge to even the most basic outfit. I’m thinking of picking up this version
  • Steve Madden Shariniv– Velvet seems to be the fabric of choice especially when it comes to footwear. I love the peerk-a-boo slits on the side and the navy version is a great alternative to black.
  • Sam Edelman Loafer-I’ve been looking for some new mocassins or loafers to replace my worn out ones and these caught my eye.I love the red color and these are a great dupe to Gucci loafers .
  • Steve Madden Laaura Loafer-Speaking of Gucci shoes, one of the hottest footwear trends I keep seeing on my Instagram feed are these Gucci mules and Steven Madden offers a more affordable option. I  can certainly see the appeal of these shoes. Like the loafes above, it gives a casual polished look and the fact that it’s backless makes it easy to slip on and head out the door.
  • Michael Kors Sabrina Flat– I’m a ballet flat shoe kind of girl. I love these ones by Michael Kors. The chain detail around the heel adds a touch of edge to an otherwise feminine shoe.I love the contrast of the nude/black version with the gold chain or the sleek monochromatic look of the all black flat.

What are some of your favorite fall fashion items you have picked up?

Weekend Update

This weekend seemed to fly right by! We started today off with a visit from my sister and my brother-in-law who came to check out the new place. It was nice to see some familiar faces and got to enjoy some gluten-free carrot cake cookies from a nearby bakery we picked up yesterday. The rest of the day has been spent lounging around. So overall, it’s been a relaxing day in contrast to yesterday .

Annabell is enjoying our new house warming present and has claimed it as hers.

Saturday Garrett walked to the farmers market down the street and picked up a few things while Annabell and I slept in. We ended up grabbing lunch at a nearby restaurant and ate outside( and being the only ones out there)and enjoyed the sunshine and the breeze. They had the cutest outdoor bar and my burger and fries hit the spot.If you can’t tell, we have been enjoying checking out the nearby restaurants and diners around and  still have a bunch more places to check out.

Saturdays lunch date at the Tavern on the Lock. We definitately plan on going back.

Here’s what’s been happening since the last update.

Garrett and I have finally moved everything out of the old apartment! All we need to do is hand in the keys. Unfortunately I currently have 2 tubs filled with kitchen things hanging around the apartment that I need to find space for. Though the weather was warm this week, I decided to act like the temperature had already dropped by making a large pot of vegetarian chili and some homemade apple crisp. While Garrett is a fan of the summer heat, he is anxiously awaiting cooler temperatures since he can put his beer brewing kit to use.

Right now are still talking over wallpaper choices for the kitchen. For the most part, he is against florals since “he wants to like the wallpaper too”. So while flowers seem to be a no go, he did okay a cat/taco print wallpaper. Despite my previous complaints about the yellow kitchen, we both liked a pineapple print wallpaper and I’ve been looking at some sunflower prints. Hopefully we (or I ) can make a decision sometime next week so I can place an order for a few samples and place an order. While we are still waiting for some repairs to be made in the kitchen, we ended up buying a hanging plant from Lowe’s that brings a smile to my face everytime I see it and adds that extra something. I plan on making another trip for another hanging plant and a few small ones for the rest of the apartment.

In between cooking and organizing, I’ve been drooling over all of the new fall clothes. Unsurprisingly, I want all of the fall line fom  Madewell and Free People to magically appear in my closet( My next entry will be my top picks for fall clothes). Something I can stock up on without Garrett rolling his eyes at me are candles. When it comes to scents, I tend to be pretty picky. I find most food/fruity scents are cloyingly sweet and give me a headache. Right now my candle of choice is this Bourbon candle by Makers of Wax Goods. It has a rich warm scent that lingers around the apartment, but it’s not over powering. I’m thinking of placing an order for their Gin candle since Garrett and I are big fans of gin.

I think I might place an order for another one of these.

Maybe it’s the influence of 90s fashion, a side effect of drinking Crystal Pepsi or the nostalgia of being a kid since school is back in session, but lately I have been listening to 90s R&B playlists (and 90s music in general)on Spotify. Boyz II Men, TLC,and Rage Against the Machine( much to Garretts liking) are on heavy rotation right now. When I’m not being nostolgic, I’ve been listening to new Bon Iver songs and to no one’s surprise, I am anxiously awaiting the new album to come out at the end of the month. I have a feeling Garrett is gonna revoke my rights as the car dj from playing the album constantly. Two of my favorite bands, Coheed & Cambria(one of the few bands I love that Garrett likes) and Saves The Day are on tour this fall so I’m hoping that Garrett and I get to go see them.

I plan on spending the rest of tonight and probably tomorrow binge watching Stranger Things which we (finally) started earlier today. Hope everyone had a great weekend and has a great start to the week!

These are the 5 things I am currently loving/obsessing over

  1. Distressed/ripped jeans- I am a huge fan of ripped jeans whether they are skinny or a boyfriend fit. As of late, I have fallen back in love with this pair of Current/Elliot skinny jeans in the Loved Destroy wash. The denim is soft and broken in and the white paint splatters give it a different look than a basic pair of ripped jeans. My go-to uniform lately has been a pair of ripped jeans with a tank tucked in.
  2. Tank Top-  Lately my tank top of choice to tuck into my (distressed) jeans is the Unisex fine jersey tank top. It’s lightweight, easy to throw on, and comes in a variety of colors.
  3. Copper jewelry-Something else I’ve been wearing lately are some copper bracelets I’ve had for a while. I like that it’s more unique than rose gold and it’s just as easy to accessorize. One of Pantone’s top color for fall is Potters Clay and this be a great way to incorporate the color into your wardrobe or the finishing touch if your going for a monochromatic look. I somehow found the same exact bracelet I have on Etsy here and here.IMG_20160826_164513
  4. Gucci Marmont bag- It’s no surprise that I love purses. I’ve been drooling over the new Marmont bags by Gucci. It definately has a similar to look to some Chanel bags, and despite being over $1000, is still less. I love the black&white or the bright pink one for a bold statement to an outfit.
  5. Wall paper- I fell in love with this wallpaper I saw in an Instagram photo and have spent my day browsing the website . As I mentioned in the last post, the kitchen is a work in progess. The idea of a fun/bold pattern wallpaper for the kitchen or the area where the washer/dryer are is becoming very appealing.
